Allergies, Acupuncture and Chiropractic

Updated: Feb 16, 2022

It’s that time of year where we are unsure if the bitter chill in the air will stay for a couple more weeks or break through to the warmth of the ever-approaching Springtime. The first thought to most people’s mind is the daunting and dreaded word: “Allergies”. Especially around here in Central Texas where the yellow pollen sticks to every nook and cranny and the windy hills blow anything not bolted down into swirling dust clouds. To say the least there is no escape from the Springtime bandit that is known to make a nose runny, eyes puffy and a throat sore.

The nice thing is you no longer need to rely solely on antihistamines and other allergen fighting medicinals to make it through the beautiful yet mean season we call “Spring”. Both chiropractic care and acupuncture have gone through studies of varying forms and have been proven even if slightly to help reduce symptoms of allergies. One study divided patients and treatment into 3 groups; the group that was treated with both acupuncture AND antihistamines improved their QUALITY OF LIFE vs sole antihistamine use or the use of just acupuncture (Benno).

Chiropractic care on the other hand uses a different approach. As most people know chiropractors focus on the spine, working from the neck to the lower back. While adjustments have been shown to help with neck tension and relief of headaches, some chiropractors, including those here at G2 Chiropractic, use acupressure, activator, and other soft tissue modalities as well. These additions may help relieve pressure in and around the face and sinuses.

Here at G2 Chiropractic we have you covered on many fronts to combat those stinking allergies. Our first line of defense is the support of your immune system with a range of supplements we carry in office. Both Drs. Chris and Guerra can help with your adjustment needs whether that’s a tense neck, stuffy nose, or ear pressure. Lastly Dr. Guerra has a gentle touch but means business when it comes to making people feel better with the use of acupuncture.
